Vacation Day # 2

Today we had an adventure while traveling. We crossed the Mighty Mack Bridge and continued our trip in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It's just beautiful up here. You can go half an hour without even seeing another car. What a difference from our normal vacations. We even saw piles of snow along the road in a few places. We stopped to see these beautiful waterfalls...
It's called Tahquamenon Falls State Park. It was so beautiful. Then my mom did something I didn't think she'd ever do......she went offroading. Boy what she'll do to see a lighthouse haha. I had step by step directions pulled up and we took the journey. It was 18 miles from a paved road, 23 miles from the nearest electricity, and 27 miles from the nearest gas station. We made it to the last 1/2 mile till the lighthouse and the path was blocked by knee deep snow! I was so mad. So I grabbed the camera and walked to it. I wasn't going to let anything stop me when I was that close. Here is the lighthouse...
This is Crisp Point Lighthouse. A new one for mom and me. When we made it back to the pavement safe I said Okay that's a journey I will never forget. Best part. We made it safe! I was worried a few times because the road was really loose sand and I was worried about getting stuck in the van. Mostly since I had no cell phone signal at all!! But Mom did fantastic. I'm so proud. It's sure something we won't forget. It ended up being a 3hr trip.

We had a little problem finding a place to stay tonight. Totally didn't think about it being graduation time. So we finally found a place where we got the last room they had. Here is where we are on the map...
I already called ahead and got us a room for the next 3 nights so we don't have to worry about that. We'll be moving over to Wisconsin for a few nights.

You are braver than me going over that bridge! We once detoured through Wisconsin to avoid that bridge! :-)

You are in a gorgeous are of Michigan! Make sure you get up to Copper Harbor!

My mom once got stuck on one of those logging roads and had to walk back to pavement (3-4- miles) through bear country! LOL!

Looking forward to hearing more about your trip!
