Vacation Day # 7

Today we got to take a boat cruise...
I thought it was going to just be just inside the harbor. We got to go through the canal! So we got to go under the aerial lift bridge. Jeremiah enjoyed that a lot. We also got to hear a lot of history about the area and we learned a lot. We went through the harbor area too and got to see several freighters up close including the one we saw come through the canal the other day. One was loading up with coal. It goes to Chicago. It takes the boat 36 hours to get to Chicago from here. Chicago uses the ship load of coal in less than 24 hrs. But shipping it by boat is still cheaper than by train. Amazing.

The place we left on the boat cruise had an amazing gift shop. Mom wanted one of everything because they sold a lot of nautical things. We got several souvenir t-shirts. Then we walked over to another building with a lot of stores inside. It had several stories so we were waiting for the elevator to go up to the 2nd floor. I noticed it wasn't moving very quickly. There was another lady waiting and she said something about it not running well earlier today. So I quickly said Oh...with my fear of elevators already I said I would just wait for mom to get done shopping and then go up the stairs while she waited with Jeremiah. She came down and I turned to go up the stairs and they were open stairs (where you can see through)....yep another fear. So no going up to the 2nd floor for me haha. It was really funny and Jeremiah enjoyed the laugh at me and my luck.

Then we walked over to eat at a cute Mexican restaurant. When we were walking in a guy in a suit smiled at my mom. We ate our food and was getting ready for our check and the waiter said it was already paid for. Um. The guy in the suit paid for our meal. So Jeremiah is now picking on mom for flirting and getting our meal paid for. Who knows why he did it but we sure appreciated it.

After we got back to our hotel we walked out to the lake walk area behind our hotel. From the boat cruise we had seen this wall and heard the history about it. So we wanted to go check it out. Here is the info...
Here is a few panels of the wall...

Amazing!! So glad we knew to walk over to the see it up close.

Another very good day. I love to go on tours when I'm on vacation - you learn so much about the history of an area and also things you need to have a closer look at.

Wow, what an interesting day. When visiting a new place it's one of the most interesting things to hear about the history and the development that place has seen. I also love to see places where historical things are restored.

You have to try for a free lunch today - don't let your mum have all the flirting fun! What a nice thing for that man to do.

Sounds like another fun day, especially the giggles Jeremiah had at your expense and your mum's obvious charm. Are there any nautical cross stitches among your souvenirs I wonder?! :)

That's so wonderful, esp. the lunch part, haha. Mom must have blushed with all Jeremiah's teasing. I love learning about a place' history too, thanks for sharing:)
