On the Road with Katie

So a friend on ESC told me I needed to setup a Monday update called On the Road with Katie. I'm just so busy from now until Halloween. She always calls me the Traveling Stitcher. So here I am and I'm trying this. Let's tell you about my weekend....

Friday my hubby and I decided to have a date night. I think these are so important and so glad we get the chance to take them. After pricing stuff the whole day for mom's business I was ready to go. First we had a quick stop at Fred's local amateur radio club. They had a sale and he wanted to see if he could find anything that he didn't need haha. He didn't find anything so off we went to our movie. First off I gotta tell you in case you don't know I LOVE Horror movies. Well I heard Piranha 3D was out and couldn't wait to go see it. If you love gory movies this was the most gory movie I've ever seen. It was fantastic and I enjoyed every second of it. Not really scary so much as hilarious. The 3D was so much fun and we really really loved the movie. There is a lot of nudity and suggestive themes though so not for kids for sure. It was late after the movie so we made a few quick stops on the way home. Poor Fred has horrible poison ivy so we had to stop and get some medicine for him.

Saturday morning we hit the road about 9:30am. We were off to Crown Point, Indiana. It took us about 3 hours. We were attending a geocaching event with several friends. If you don't know what geocaching is click on the word and I connected the home page for the hobby. They have this very neat movie you can watch to explain the whole thing.

This is the county park our event was in. It rained on and off during the 3 hour ride but ended up being beautiful weather up there. A little warm but it was perfect. We ended up with probably 13 caches. We also had a journalist with us and gave him a lot of information. Hope I can find his article if it gets posted. This event was like a Poker Run so for each cache you found you received a card. We won a nice Bass Pro cup. After the event we were off to a local candy factory. I have heard my friends brag about this place and couldn't wait to check it out. It's called Albanese. It was exactly what I have heard about.

The first picture is our typical Fred and Katie pose. With Fred's long arms we always take a picture of us together. Our friends all starting calling it the Fred and Katie pose haha. So we got the picture of the sign in the background. The 2nd picture is the glorious greeting when you walk into the store. The huge fountain is literally running chocolate. I wanted to just hang out and stick my tongue out but couldn't get close enough haha. The last picture is a shot of the floor. They had every candy you could ever want. Every flavor of gummy and all the old favorite candies from everyone's childhood. You can see some windows in the back of the picture and that is to look through and watch the factory. They didn't allow pictures of that part though. It was so amazing to watch though. We only spent $40 but WOW we got a lot of candy.

After this little side trip we went to our friends house. 10 of us or so stayed the night at their house. They had a very lovely home and we felt very welcome. We had a delicious dinner and then sat around the fire together. One of our friends had bought this Drinking Jenga game. Now the funniest part about this is it came with 4 shot glasses and yet had a warning to not use with alcoholic beverages hahaha. Since we are all way over 21 we decided to have a few games. We really had way too much fun. We are so ornery together and I love every minute with my friends. Off to bed we went at who knows how late haha.

When we woke up Sunday morning a newcomer to our group made a delicious breakfast. We ate and felt miserable afterward but that just means it's extra yummy right? We sat around and visited for awhile before hitting the road again. We made a stop for lunch with another friend who couldn't attend the night before. It's a restaurant in Valparaiso, Indiana. If you are ever in the area you should try it. It's called Industrial Revolution. The inside is so beautiful and the outside has amazing sculptures everywhere. Our food was so delicious as well and the prices are very decent. We said our final goodbyes and hit the road. We made it home at about 7pm. It was yet another fantastic weekend in my life.

I did post several pictures on my facebook. I'll link here but a warning we are ornery haha. I don't want to offend anyone. So now you kind of experienced my weekend.
