Vegas Recap

Okay I think my last loads of laundry will actually be done today. First week I did 7. Then I did 4 Tuesday. Couldn't believe that amount didn't finish the backlog of laundry but of course we add to the pile everyday. No probably 2 or 3 more loads today to go. That job is never truly done though is it? So the other thing I wanted to do to feel caught up was talk about our trip here on my blog.

So I posted our trip there on the train and the first few days. The real fun started after Jeremiah was official in the eyes of the law haha. We had 11 total in our group and boy we had a blast. My Dad's part of the group stayed through Tuesday morning. So we kind of stuck around downtown where our hotel was located. One day we did walk to a museum...
It was a Mob Museum and told the history of how Las Vegas was pretty much built by the mob. Some think it still has a lot of mob connections. It was a really nice museum and we really enjoyed our time there walking around.

Tuesday after Dad and friends left. We had us 4 and two close friends still there. They got to stay in Vegas till Saturday the 4th. We had found out you could walk a little bit from our hotel and catch a bus that went everywhere we wanted to go. So we all loaded up and our first stop had to be the Vegas sign of course...
We did a LOT of walking. The strip hotels/casinos are HUGE so you walk and walk and walk and walk and don't get out of the one casino. Last time we were in Vegas they had this survey place you could go in and watch an upcoming TV show. You would tell them how you liked the show and they base that information on whether the show will actually make it TV or not. We are TV maniacs so we did it then. This time for whatever reason they were paying people $40 each to watch the show. So we figured we would check it out...
At the end of it we each got $40 cash! That's awesome. Free money in Vegas. I'm sure the casino knew they would get the money back. Mom put in $20 and made it up to $40. I told her to keep playing and then she lost almost all of it...
It was my fault totally. She was proud of her 12 cents though haha. The bus system worked really great. When mom couldn't walk any more I can go with her back to the hotel. Then meet back up with everyone else. Perfect. Jeremiah, Fred, Tim and Sam would get to see some other stuff I had already seen before. We thought this bar they found was really neat...
It had a handicap section at the bar. The bartender would even talk directly to Jeremiah and ask him what he wanted to order. Very well thought out! Of course my new legal kiddo ordered water. He's not going to be a big drinker. He really likes being able to take a sip of something new. Just not a real drinker. Which is totally fine. I'm proud of him for being who he wants to be. No pressuring him.

May 1st was mom's birthday so we took her to some places she really wanted to see. One was the Venetian. It's based on Venice, Italy. Inside you can go on a gondola ride. So I told Mom we would do that for her birthday...
The gentleman would sing to us the entire time and it was beautiful. Boat ride in a hotel. Crazy! Before we got out I asked him to sing Happy Birthday and it was just gorgeous.

Thursday we went to a concert called Blue Man Group. These guys are crazy. We had saw them in Vegas on our honeymoon in 2001. Then the traveling group came to our town and we took Jeremiah because we knew he would love it. Tim and Sam hadn't seen it before so we were happy to go again. Plus Mom hadn't seen it either. There are three guys painted blue and they don't speak. Yet their show is hilarious. Then they also play instruments made out of PVC pipe. It was a great show! Jeremiah got to meet one of the guys after the show...
At the end of the show they pretty much bury the audience in toilet paper. So that is what Jeremiah is wearing as a tie around his neck haha.

Friday our feet were done. So no going to the Strip again. We had done everything we could have done this time. It's an amazingly huge place that's for sure. Saturday was our last day together. They left in the evening. The hotel setup a wrestling ring and they had a huge Cinco De Mayo festival with Lucha Libre wrestling. It was a fun time for Jeremiah and I after the others had left for the airport. We started our trip home Monday evening. Our train was running very late and it felt like it took forever to get home. I think we just really tired. We had a nice time though made it home safe and sound Wednesday night.

Overall the trip was just amazing. Jeremiah had a blast. So many more photos have been posted to Facebook if you are on there. Just can't post them all here. Normally we travel to places and think we'll be back someday. Vegas is the kind of place I just can't wait to go back. I did get very into gambling at the slot machines. I did not spend more than I was supposed to though. My dad had a great idea. He said take only money you don't have to have to survive. Divide your total by how many days you are there. Use only that day's worth. If you spend it. Go to bed haha. I did that and I stuck with it. I noticed some days I didn't need to get out that day's money until later. I did have two days where I showed Fred my empty little wallet and said I'm going to bed haha. The last day at the almost the last moment I hit and cashed out $500 so I came home with a few days paid back.

The hotel was great. We ended up getting a big discount because of how many hours we had spent gambling. My friends got their entire hotel stay free. We got half taken off our room. I was really impressed by how they treated us and all the staff that worked there. The strip is a lot more expensive and way too busy. I will definitely be staying at the Plaza again.

Our train system is nice. The drawbacks it's more expensive than flying and you can't really pick the times. They are in the area at set times and not very convenient for those who don't like to board at 3am. So I might fly in the future. If my doctor can knock me out with medication haha. We will be going back. My dad and step mom go once a year. Jeremiah already asked them when they are going again. He loved Fremont Street. The people. The performers. The you never knew what you might see. Believe me we seen a lot I can't post haha. It's a big difference there than Indiana. Everything is legal there haha.

It was a birthday to remember! Now you are caught up on our trip. Thanks for traveling along with us.

I loved hearing about your trip, what a way to celebrate a milestone Birthday for Jeremiah.
The disability-friendly bar is a really good idea, I've seen shops and takeaways with similar accessible counters but not a bar. When we have a customer in a wheelchair I make sure I talk direct to them, not the person pushing the chair. Even if the customer is non-verbal I still tell them how much the total price is. It's about respect.

What a trip to remember for you all. I think a lot of younger people are remaining alcohol free these days for healthier reasons.
Like Jo, I've seen disability counters but not in a bar I don't think.

Sounds like you guys had a great time finishing up the Vegas trip! Was it everyone's birthday? Jeremiah looks so cute sitting there at the bar ordering his water :)

Truly a fantastic way to celebrate and remember Jeremiah's 21st! We stayed at the Venetian years ago when the Gmen were about four, I think they'd enjoy it much more now!
The Blue Man group sounds like so much fun, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for sharing your latest adventure!

What an amazing holiday for you all to remember. I wonder how many more times Jeremiah will be 21 so that you can have more 'once in a lifetime' holidays?! :)

I'm a little behind, but still wanted to respond. I'm glad you had a great time and came home with some money to spend on stash!! What a nice way to celebrate some special birthdays!

We saw the Blue Man Group for my daughter's birthday back in 2007. Also, if you do go back to the strip, be sure to stop at the M&M/Coca Cola exhibit.
