Vacation Day 4

Today we drove that last part of the way to our first real destination. We are staying in Jekyll Island Georgia now for 6 nights. We got a room at a brand new Holiday Inn Resort which is ocean front. I was worried since it was so new but it's in a fantastic location. I asked for a 2nd floor room so we could have a better view. It was a pain getting our suitcases all carried up since they laid out the elevator and the hallway weird but once we got them all in and settled we were good to go. Mom is happy because she already saw several Pelicans. We ate a delicious lunch on the waterfront. We got some tours picked out we want to go on that give a lot of history on the area. So a more fun part of vacation has officially begun. The internet is acting up tonight so I'll leave you with this lame update for now. Hopefully it will be sorted out tomorrow and I can talk more.

My ancestors (du Bignon and Horton) owned Jekyll Island from 1795ish thru the mid 1800's... Eventually sold it to the Rockefellers (for a steal!! $125,000!!) and the new owners built it up into what was called the playground for the Rich (the Jekyll Island Club)! I believe there is a historic cabin or such called the Dubignon Cottage, to show the simplicity of plantation life in the mid 1800's. And there is also the place called Horton House. That is where the first duBignon ancestor built his mansion (Christophe Poulian duBignon)... There is a cemetery across the way from there where many of these in my ancestral line are buried. I have not been there personally, but hope to visit soon... Have a great time!!

Good to hear you finally arrived. The waterfront view must be so relaxing after all of the travelling. :)
