Vacation Day # 9

It's our last day in Duluth, MN. We heard on the news it was going to be their hottest day. It's normally in the 60's and today it hit 94!!! It was hotter here today than Mexico they said!! They broke several records they said.

We also heard on the news this morning they were talking about this scenic train tour that started up today. So we decided to look into it. We found the depot and got our tickets. We could tour the depot too so we decided to do that even though it's not really an interest of ours. We had time to kill. We all ended up having a blast!! Jeremiah knew a lot of old trains from an Xbox game he plays. So he had a really fun time looking at the old trains and telling us about how it works in the game he plays. A lot of times the history we learned about them matched what he was teaching us. I always laugh and how people say video games are bad for kids. Maybe they aren't really all that bad. It was really surprising how much we all ended up enjoying the depot and the history we learned about it. Here is the train we rode on...
They had this neat elevator that got Jeremiah right up to the train car. So neat how they can make even something this old accessible for him. We really enjoyed the 1 and a half hour tour. Here is a picture we got inside the depot...
Jeremiah climbed up about 15 steps to be able to sit inside this train engine. It was so worth it. Sure nothing he's ever done before. So many valves and buttons and what nots. Crazy. After the train tour we went to eat and then went to an arcade for a little bit...
We ended up winning 450 tickets. Then we hurried back to the room. The record breaking heat caused some bad storms. Hey we've been really lucky with the weather so it was understandable. It was really the end of our day anyway. Now tomorrow we are heading to a different area. Back to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. There is another area with several more lighthouses for us to find. Wonder what other fun stuff we'll find to do. We've sure been having a blast so far!!!

What perfect timing for the train tour to start on your last day there! And very special for teacher and student to trade paces for a bit. Sorry about the heat - I would not be able to handle temperatures that high.

I love trains. I grew up near a railroad and love the sound of the train at night. So awesome, Jeremiah, I bet you could have let the whole tour.....

Sounds like a wonderful day! If you get back near Marquette, MI and have time, take the boat tour for Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. It's awesome!
