What happened?!?!

So I had posted about how sick Jeremiah was. My poor little guy. Well it just got worse and worse. Monday the 18th we went to his doctor. She confirmed his ear infection but the drops didn't seem to be working so she gave him another antibiotic. We noticed he got worse after a few days. So back to the doctor Friday the 22nd and found out the antibiotic was making him worse grrr. Now she noticed his deep cough. So a new diagnosis of walking pneumonia (this is a pneumonia that is quiet and doesn't really show up on tests but can still be treated). So that means we start a new antibiotic to help with that. We had plans to go camping for Memorial Day weekend. Jeremiah said he wanted Fred and me to go and try to have a good time. Mom took over and I knew he would be safe and hopefully have time to get better. I called home a thousand times at least and he just still wasn't getting better. Sunday morning mom said he had a skin infection. He has had these skin infections before but I was like Seriously another problem?!? Monday I got home in the morning to take back over my nurse duties. I looked at the skin infection and was shocked by how bad it was. I gave him a bath trying to clean him up and was really concerned. So we planned on calling the doc Tuesday morning to figure out yet again what to do.

This time I said to the nurse at the doc's office I wanted him to just go to the ER. Poor guy just couldn't catch a break and I wanted to find out what the heck was wrong. They agreed and off we went to the ER. This is where the blur starts. Doctors and nurses came into the room and was shocked by the infection. They wouldn't really talk slow enough for me to understand but I heard words I wasn't expecting.....we might not be able to salvage the area......remove the dead skin......could have been deadly if spread......dead in a matters of DAYS....wait what?!?!? Next thing I know I'm shaking hands with a surgeon. Wait surgeon?!? So I start making phone calls to alert family. I ask a nurse what in the world is going on. I honestly thought we would be getting maybe an Xray.....maybe an Ultrasound....maybe a cream....maybe a few hours and then go home. No this is serious. This infection was in the wrong place at the wrong time and actually cut off circulation and there was dead skin that had to be removed. So by 4:30pm he was in emergency surgery. I still can't believe how fast everything went.

After the surgery we finally starting getting some good news. The doc was able to get all the dead skin. It wasn't as deep as he thought it was going to be. The healing process wouldn't be as bad as we thought. At one point they had even said he would need more surgeries but now that looked not near as likely. So we can finally took a sigh of relief. He still had to stay in the hospital 3 nights. I never left his side of course. The end explanation was a bacteria grew in the wrong place at the wrong time. Luckily we caught it in time. Even though it was horrible what he went through it was another example of our life motto...No matter how bad it is.....It could always be worse.  Here is a picture of my little guy when he finally was up and in a chair to eat his breakfast...
So yesterday he was finally released. Now we start the road to recovery and healing. I still can't believe the whole thing happened. We all keep waiting for the Just Kidding part. I joked with my hubby that when I finally got home and saw my stitching laying there Oh I remember this hobby I used to do. Now hopefully I'll be able to get back to it. In between nurse duties of course.

As a mother myself I can just imagine what was going through your mind. Your poor baby! Thank heavens you have a good hospital who knew exactly what to do and got on and did it.
I hope he doesn't take too long to recover.
